It was 2004 when a young girl from Pakistan got her name written in the history of IT at the age of 9 years only. Arfa Karim Randhawa became world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs), a certification many dream about acquiring in their lifetime.
In July, 2005 she was invited to visit Microsoft Headquarters in USA where she met Bill Gates and other senior IT professionals from Microsoft. The Vice President of the Software Development Division Mr. S. Somasegar wrote about her in his blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/somasegar/archive/2005/07/13/438647.aspx
She also learned flying at a flying club in Dubai and flew a plane at the age of 10. I saw one of her interviews few years back where she shared her inspirations and plans for the future of Pakistan.
She said “I would want to get my education and give back to our nation” in that interview. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X07dB032Qs)
She also represented Pakistan on various International IT forums and brought fame to Pakistan.
In December, 2011 she fell ill due diopathic epilepsy seizures which led to her brain damage. She went into coma and kept struggling for her life till 14th January, 2012 when she left this mortal world at the age of 16.
Jinhein Zindagee Ka Shaoor Tha Unhein Bayzari Nay Mita Dia,
Jo Giraan Thay Seena-e-Khak Par Wo He Bun Ke Baythay Hein Mutbar
Today we lost a great mind who was our nation’s pride. Her aspirations for Pakistan were commendable and she was a role model for millions of people around the world.
Today Pakistan lost its ‘Steve Jobs’, we lost our Arfa Karim Randhawa ![]()

Well said brother “Jo giran hain seena-e-khak per wo hain ban k bethay hain moutabar”. I understand Allah blessed Pakistani nation with lots of genius minds but we only value them when they are not with us… this is the prime irony for all of us.
Best of luck for all the nation.
Farhan yes it’s indeed an irony that we value our heroes once they are gone.
